March 8th, 1988 Brittany Annette Rose was born!
October 13th, 1988 Brent Neville Butler was born!
*fast forward to...
2003-ish We were are around 15 when our younger siblings, Jim & Courtney, were in the sixth grade and best friends. They asked us to talk on the phone in hopes that if we someday got married, they could be best friends forever. We humored them, and did so. (I still remember joking with Brent over the phone about how we'd someday get married, while sitting on my parents' bed in their unfinished bedroom as Courtney giggled off to the side!)
Over the next six years, we saw each other every now and then via Courtney and Jim, and were, of course, MySpace & Facebook friends! :)
*fast forward to...
March 2009 We began talking on Facebook chat while Brent was in Iraq and realized we had a lot in common, such as the same sense of humor and interests.
April 2009 Brent returned home from Iraq and we hung out pretty regularly for about a month. We each had a pretty big crush on one another. Of course, we told Jim and Courtney, they told each other that we liked one another, then they told us that the other one liked the other one...you know how the story goes. And Brent asked me on a Monday to go on a date with him that Friday.
We went on our first date to Johnny Carino's and afterward on a walk around the College of Southern Idaho campus. I had purchased new shoes for the occasion, not knowing we'd be going on a walk, and got blisters. We then went to Brent's house and watched The Sum of All Fears, and I still have - and wear - those shoes. :)
We had our first kiss on our second date, which was a picnic at Rock Creek Park, and at that point we decided we were official. We dated the entire summer of 2009.
August 2009 I was dumb, and broke up with Brent. (Actually, neither of us were really ready to be in a serious relationship. We look back now, and can clearly see that it was the right thing at the wrong time.)
*over the next year...
We remained friends. Brent continued to have feelings for me over that time, and I(literally) went a bit crazy that year. 2010 was an interesting year for us both - it was good, it was bad, and it was full of emotional, mental, and spiritual growth and development that served to prepare us both for our future together.
Over the summer of 2010, we pretty much hung out with the same group of people, and hung out with each other a lot.
August 2010 I told Brent at Barnes & Noble that I had feelings for him again. He said he did too, but we needed to wait, as we were still growing and school was starting up. (We did, however, have three courses together!)
September 2010 Brent tells me that he might like to go ahead and have that relationship now, and I tell him I'm not ready.
October 12th, 2010 I decided to kiss Brent while hanging out one day. We were watching an episode of The Twilight Zone (it was called Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up?) on the computer in his mom's office, and after giving him a kiss, we decided to call a spade a spade and be "a thing." However, we also decided to keep our relationship on the down-low for a little bit.
Also, I remember the specific date here because A) it was the day my friend, Natasha, from England surprised her Yankee friends with a visit (see the video here - start watching at about the 2 minute mark), and B) the following day was Brent's birthday party and we were both very excited, albeit quiet, about our recent development. :)
January 2011 We became officially official, though most people knew already. :)
May 20th, 2011 As I was getting ready to leave work in the morning, my coworker handed me a note with a clue on it. It was written in poem format telling me I was in for a surprise. I knew what was happening! Instead of doing what the clue said to do, I first went home to change and make myself look a bit more pretty! Then Brent - via the note - sent me on a scavenger hunt around Twin Falls to sentimental places from our relationship. Jim met me at Johnny Carino's; our friend Ally met me at Absolutely Flowers with a bouquet; and Courtney met me at Barnes & Noble. From there, I headed to Rock Creek Park, where we had had our first kiss about two years before, and he asked me to marry him. Of course, I said yes.
Funny story...Before Brent proposed, he was trying to text Courtney to tell her that he had purchased the ring, but accidentally texted me instead! I didn't want to ruin it for him, and luckily my phone had been acting up lately, so I acted like I hadn't gotten a text from him. I later told him though, and I totally remember where I was when I got the text: the Target dressing room! ;)
October 1st, 2011 Almost exactly one year after deciding to give it another go, Brent and I were joined in the covenant of marriage at 2 o'clock in the afternoon on a gorgeous day in a simple, beautiful backyard ceremony surrounded by our friends and family.
June 29th, 2012 Brent and I moved to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma to attend Rhema Bible Training College. We both love the Lord with all of our hearts, and its our joy to honor and serve Him together as one!
October 1st, 2012 ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY!!! And many more to come... :)
